Dexter Lawrence's dominant day proves stats are overrated

On September 20, the Cincinnati Bengals secured a 20-6 victory over the Houston Texans, largely due to the dominant performance of defensive end Dexter Lawrence II. For the second week in a row, Lawrence stifled Houston's running game, contributing significantly to the outcome beyond the traditional statistics.

Lawrence recorded three tackles, including one for a loss and a quarterback hit. His pivotal play came midway through the second quarter when Houston opted to attempt a fourth-down play from the 22-yard line. Facing fourth-and-inches, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud handed off to running back David Montgomery, only for Lawrence to explode through his gap and immediately halt Montgomery's advance. Houston was then forced to punt, surrendering no points while enjoying a favorable field position.

The absence of Houston's top three wide receivers played a part in the Texans' disadvantage, but Stroud still managed to orchestrate 400+ yards of total offense. However, Lawrence and the Cincinnati defense responded relentlessly to every Houston attempt to tighten the game.
