Bernal, Herrera homer in eighth inning to help Cardinals beat Nationals 5-3

On Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals triumphed over the Washington Nationals 5-3, with Iván Herrera and Leo Bernal both contributing with home runs in the eighth inning. Herrera, who also hit a solo shot in the first inning, managed to tie the game at 3-all. Bernal, on the other hand, hit his fifth homer of the season off Yovanny Cruz, after Erik Tolman walked Jordan Walker with two outs.

Luis Gastelum and Riley O’Brien contributed to the Cardinals' victory, with the latter recording his 38th save in relief of starter Quinn Mathews, who went the distance in a career-high seven innings. The Nationals, meanwhile, were led by Jake Irvin, who struck out eight in 5 1/3 innings. Despite Daylen Lile's double down the right field line, Jordan Walker's perfect throw to third base preserved the Cardinals' win.
