Banditry, kidnapping could trigger national security crisis – PRP warns

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has issued a stark warning that escalating incidents of banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats in the North-Central and North-West regions of Nigeria could spiral into a national security crisis unless immediate action is taken. This warning was issued in a statement by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, following the ongoing captivity of individuals abducted by bandits in Dekara community, located within Niger State's Borgu Local Government Area.

Ishaq criticized the federal government for its perceived neglect in safeguarding citizens from these attacks, emphasizing that the protection of lives and property is a fundamental duty of the state. He termed the government's inability to ensure such protection as both "worrying" and "unacceptable," demanding widespread condemnation of this inaction.

The party underscored that failure to address these security issues could precipitate catastrophic breaches of national security, urging the authorities to hold accountable those who have failed in their duties and to review policies aimed at enhancing the safety and security of Nigerian citizens. Additionally, the PRP called for intensified efforts to curb banditry and kidnapping, restore peace, and protect affected communities.

Moreover, the party expressed deep regret over the deaths of 37 miners who were reportedly killed while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger State's capital. It demanded an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding these deaths, emphasizing the need for accountability and prosecution of any responsible parties.

Ishaq specifically called for the establishment of an Independent Commission of Inquiry to uncover the reasons behind this tragic incident and ensure justice is served.
