Ban Hyo-jin wins bronze in women's 10m air rifle

NAGOYA — Olympic champion Ban Hyo-jin secured a bronze medal in the women's 10-meter air rifle shooting event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday. This marked her first Asian Games medal and celebrated her 19th birthday. Ban achieved a score of 230.4 points in the final at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery in Toyota, located approximately 25 kilometers east of Nagoya.

Japan's Hinata Taichi emerged victorious with a record-breaking score of 253 points, while India's Elavenil Valarivan claimed silver with 252.4 points. In the eight-shooter final, competitors fired two sets of five shots each, with 250 seconds allocated per set. Each shooter received 10 shots followed by 14 single shots, given within 50 seconds per shot.

Eliminations commenced after the 12th shot and alternated every two shots until the gold and silver medals were determined. Ban found herself in third place after the initial two series, with Valarivan leading by 106 points and Misaki Nobata of Japan trailing with 104.9 points.
