Ban Hyo-jin wins bronze in women's 10m air rifle

Nagoya — Olympic champion Ban Hyo-jin secured bronze in the women's 10-meter air rifle shooting competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday. The 2024 Olympic gold medalist marked her 19th birthday with her maiden Asian Games medal, as she earned 230.4 points in the final at Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery in Toyota, located approximately 25 kilometers east of Nagoya.

Japan's Hinata Taichi claimed gold with the Asian Games record score of 253 points, while India's Elavenil Valarivan took silver with 252.4 points. In the eight-shooter final, shooters fired two series of five shots each, given 250 seconds per series with a perfect score of 10.9. Following the initial 10 shots, 14 single shots were fired on command within 50 seconds per shot.

The lowest-scoring finalists were eliminated after every two shots starting from the 12th, until the gold and silver medals were determined. Ban found herself in third place after the initial two series with 104.9 points, trailing behind Valarivan's 106 points and fellow Japanese shooter Misaki Nobata in second.
