BAeK PTPTN: 1,254 pelajar terima manfaat libat peruntukan RM20.87 juta

The Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education recently announced that a total of 1,254 students nationwide have received the benefits of the Biasiswa Anak eKasih (BAeK) program under the Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN). This financial aid scheme, introduced in Budget 2026, aims to support 10,000 students across the country, particularly those from low-income families registered in the eKasih database, with full education funding.

The program's expansion now includes students who have already enrolled and have remaining education credits but are eligible to receive further assistance. Adam Adli Abdul Halim, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, explained that the program now covers continuing students who meet specific criteria. Among the recipients in Melaka today are Nurul Shahira Dharmadeydjaya, a 22-year-old Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) student studying environmental science in her third semester.

The Malaysian government has allocated RM210 million for this initiative this year, in addition to targeting 3,000 students with disabilities, making the total target for grant-aided student admissions 13,000. Mastura Mohd Khalid, the head of PTPTN Operations, noted that applicants must first apply for PTPTN loans before the assessment and signing process conducted by the Prime Minister's Department Implementation Unit (ICU JPM).

Only those identified as family beneficiaries of ICU JPM will be offered the relevant scholarships, based on the information provided by PTPTN. The PTPTN scheme is part of the government's efforts to ensure that eligible students do not drop out of their higher education studies due to financial constraints. During today's PTPTN distribution ceremony in Melaka, Adli Adli presented the scholarship to four students from UKM, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), and Politeknik Melaka.
