White House "If AI problems arise, the US government has many means to respond"

The White House science advisor, Michael Krachios, has stated that the US government has many means to address concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) safety. He mentioned that the government has previously used these means to address AI-related issues, such as sending a warning letter to a leading developer, Anthropic, in June, which subsequently restricted access to its AI model, "Mitos5".

Krachios expressed opposition to regulating the pace of AI development, suggesting instead that companies should self-regulate. He also emphasized the importance of having "productive dialogue" with China on AI risks, ahead of a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
