2027: Remo group warns sons against breaking Ogun zoning pact

A Remoland sociocultural organization, the Pan Remo Movement (PRM), has issued a stern warning to political leaders and aspirants in the Remo zone against attempting to disrupt the established zoning system prior to the 2027 gubernatorial elections. This caution comes in the wake of ongoing discussions concerning a Remo gubernatorial contender.

The group emphasized that the people of Remo must consider the aid they have received from other regions when Governor Dapo Abiodun secured victories in the 2019 and 2023 elections. According to the PRM, Remo has held the governorship position for 16 of the 28 years since democratic rule was reinstated in 1999, with Gbenga Daniel and Dapo Abiodun representing the zone.

The group argues that it is now time for power to be transferred to another part of the state, specifically Ogun West, to ensure equity and fairness. They stated that they are not ungrateful, as Remo has had its turn, but the support extended to them should now be reciprocated. They caution against allowing personal ambition to supersede the broader interests of the zone and the state, warning that any intentional attempt to disrupt the power rotation could lead to negative repercussions.

The PRM also appealed to Remo residents not to support what they described as a selfish political agenda that could undermine the trust other zones have in the zone. They emphasized that political arrangements are built on trust, reciprocity, and mutual respect, and that support from other zones could be jeopardized if the zone is perceived as unwilling to reciprocate.

The group, which plans to host its annual Pan Remo Forum in 2026, stressed that the issue should be viewed from the broader perspective of fairness, political accommodation, and the preservation of harmonious relationships among Ogun's major political factions.
