2027: Don’t be distracted by opposition antics – Osun APC chieftain tells Tinubu

A senior figure within the All Progressives Congress in Osun state has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against distractions from opposition strategies prior to the 2027 elections. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the APC chieftain, urged the President to prioritize governance and address security threats identified by security bodies. This plea came amid a recent intelligence alert from the Department of State Service (DSS) warning of potential attacks, particularly in the southern regions.

Oyintiloye emphasized the need for the President to bolster security measures by enhancing surveillance, improving inter-agency coordination, and taking preventive actions nationwide.

He urged all security organizations to collaborate, share intelligence, and improve surveillance and rapid response systems. Special attention should be given to safeguarding schools, places of worship, NYSC centers, parks, garages, and other vulnerable locations, especially given the ongoing school term. Oyintiloye also called for a prompt, thorough, and transparent investigation into recent killings in Osun State, demanding the identification and prosecution of those involved or aiding the violence.

He appealed to all stakeholders, including transport workers, community leaders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, to stay calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide useful information to aid investigations and deter further unrest. Strengthening security requires robust intelligence, proper training, equipment, and resources for effective prevention, detection, and response to armed group attacks, he stressed.

If needed, service chiefs should adjust their strategies swiftly, given the urgency. Oyintiloye urged state governors to support the President by providing necessary resources to local security agencies. While recognizing the President's role as Chief Security Officer, he highlighted the crucial role governors and local government chairmen play closer to the grassroots in strengthening local intelligence and maintaining peace.

He stressed that without security, no nation can achieve meaningful development, as economic growth, infrastructure, investment, and social services depend on a peaceful environment. Citizens must remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and pray for peace, unity, and progress, he said.
