‘Who did this to you and what was your crime?’ – Father grives over late Ivan Baidoo

Evans Baidoo Esq., the father of Ivan Apprey Baidoo, has spoken out about his son's death, describing the circumstances as deeply traumatic. Speaking at Ivan's burial service on Saturday, September 19, Mr Baidoo expressed his pain, particularly recalling the traumatic memory of seeing his son's lifeless body on a stretcher. He insisted that his son's death was not accidental but a brutal murder by a police officer.

Questioning the circumstances surrounding the incident, Mr Baidoo asked, "Who did this to you, and what was your crime?" Ivan, a law student at Central University, was last seen on August 27, 2026, playing football with friends at the East Legon Astroturf Park. He continued toward the motorway, where, according to the prosecution, he allegedly went through a red traffic light at the UPSA traffic intersection.

The prosecution alleges that Corporal Robert Katey Koranteng, stationed at the Traffic Management Enforcement Unit, pursued the motorcycle and signalled the rider to stop. However, Ivan allegedly failed to stop and continued, causing the motorcycle to crash into a concrete barrier. The officer is accused of failing to stop or arrange immediate medical assistance for the victims before speeding away.

The Ghana Police Service has identified and arrested Corporal Koranteng, who has been charged with murder in connection with Ivan's death.
