What was your crime? – Father grieves over late Ivan Baidoo

Ivan Apprey Baidoo, a 20-year-old Central University law student, tragically lost his life in a motorbike crash on the Tema Motorway. His father, Evans Baidoo Esq., delivered a poignant eulogy at his burial service, expressing his grief over the brutal murder of his son. He questioned why his son had to die and demanded answers about the crime committed.

Ivan was last seen playing football with friends at East Legon Astroturf Park on August 27 before setting off on his motorbike from Ashongman Estates. The prosecution alleges that the rider, Samuel Wesley Arthur, went through a red light at UPSA intersection, where Corporal Robert Katey Koranteng was on duty. The officer allegedly pursued the rider and signalled them to stop, but the rider allegedly ignored the signals and continued through Okponglo traffic light and Tetteh Quarshie Interchange onto the Tema Motorway.

The prosecution claims that after the Old Tollbooth, Corporal Koranteng kicked the motorbike and the rider lost control, leading to the crash into a concrete barrier. Ivan was pronounced dead on arrival at Tema General Hospital, while the rider was treated and discharged. Corporal Koranteng has been charged with murder, but the allegations against him are those of the prosecution.
