'Western values' and 'national pride' underpin Coalition's education reform plans

The Coalition has outlined a comprehensive plan for comprehensive educational reform in Australia, which includes removing cross-curricular units on Indigenous history and Asian studies. In their place, students would learn more about Western values, such as civics, literature, and philosophy. The party would also streamline pathways for future teachers to address staffing shortages.

Shadow Education Minister Julian Leeser declared that the reforms would restore excellence in education, as academic standards have been declining. The Coalition's plan also includes flying the Australian flag in all schools to foster national pride. Leeser suggested teaching pathways for military veterans to address rising classroom disruption and support a return to a one-year teacher accreditation system, as the longer qualification period led to more teachers not entering the profession.
