UK court jails carer on student visa 12 years for raping bedbound woman

A Pakistani care worker on a student visa who worked in Bristol, UK, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping a bedridden woman. Fazli Qadeer, 25, from Peshawar, followed his brother to study in the city and took up a caring job. Bristol Crown Court heard that Qadeer took advantage of the elderly victim's family being away, climbed onto her bed, and subjected her to a sustained sexual attack which included oral rape.

During the trial, Qadeer denied the charges and claimed the victim had assaulted him. Despite his barrister's argument that Qadeer had experienced a troubled upbringing and had disclosed being a rape victim himself, Recorder Sarah Regan emphasized that his motive for the attack remained unclear. The victim, who remains anonymous, suffered severe nightmares and anxiety following the incident, and is now prevented from contact with Qadeer by a restraining order. Qadeer's immigration status will be reviewed by the Home Office after he completes his sentence.
