UK backs Falklands firms after Argentina blocks oil project

The United Kingdom has defended companies and individuals operating in the Falkland Islands after Argentina's federal judge halted an oil project near the disputed territory. UK Overseas Territories Minister Uma Kumaran stated the government supports businesses supplying goods and services to the Falklands, including those in the hydrocarbons sector.

Argentina has intensified legal actions against involved companies, with President Javier Milei's government introducing a bill to increase penalties for unauthorised exploitation of natural resources. The UK has consistently maintained the Falkland Islands as British territory, emphasizing their right to develop natural resources and self-determination.
