Tinubu, APC governors, Rainbow Coalition: Matters arising

As the 2027 election looms, President Bola Tinubu faces a challenge with a divided political landscape. Tinubu has secured the allegiance of 34 state governors, the APC party, and the influence of Minister Nyesom Wike, forming the "Rainbow Coalition." However, a rift exists between the APC governors and the Rainbow Coalition, as they both support Tinubu but have differing agendas.

The APC Governors Forum recently disbanded any collaboration with the Rainbow Coalition, as their leadership, Hope Uzodinma, argues that the Coalition's support for Tinubu, coupled with its candidates from other parties, conflicts with the party's interests. The Rainbow Coalition, led by Wike, also includes candidates from various parties, which complicates the situation further.

Tinubu's second term bid has been marked by Wike's loyalty, a result of his role as the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Wike's past opposition to Tinubu's opponent, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has further fueled tensions. Wike's actions, including suspending Fubara and his political allies, have strained relationships and led to political fallout.

The Rainbow Coalition's emergence from the complex political turmoil in Rivers State has raised concerns among the APC establishment. The coalition's creation appears to be an attempt to consolidate power and control over state politics, potentially paving the way for Wike's future presidential ambitions.
