Tight security as DUSU polls counting underway, NSUI in lead for president post after four rounds

The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) is currently counting early trends for the presidential post, with the ABVP leading in the preliminary results. Yash Dabas of the ABVP secured 1,305 votes, followed by NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena with 1,191 votes and Left alliance candidate Ananya Raturi with 288 votes. The voting process for the four central panel posts and college union representatives began on Friday (September 18, 2026) and concluded on the same day, with the counting taking place at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium.

A total of 3,270 votes have been counted so far, with a total of 1,000 electronic voting machines deployed for the elections, 960 of which were used for polling. Security for the counting process has been tightened, with over 2,000 police and paramilitary personnel deployed across Delhi University and restrictions imposed on key roads.

The election has garnered significant attention due to its high-profile nature and the competition between the RSS-affiliated ABVP, Congress-backed NSUI, and the Left alliance of AISA-SFI. The recent student agitation over the paper leak issue has added to the significance of the election.
