Tight security as DUSU polls counting underway, NSUI in lead for president post after four rounds
Deepanshu Shokeen, a student of Delhi University's Department of Buddhist Studies, has been elected as the independent Vice President of the DUSU, defeating candidates Ishu Maurya of ABVP and Vir Chatrath of NSUI. Shokeen, whose father is a bus conductor and mother an Anganwadi worker, initially sought the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) ticket but later contested as an independent candidate after disagreements over the ticket.
His victory marks a shift in DUSU politics, traditionally dominated by ABVP and NSUI. Shokeen's family background and his decision to contest independently as an independent candidate have been part of his campaign narrative.
