Sikh truck driver stabbed in US, fuels fears

In Wyoming, a Sikh truck driver was stabbed in a restroom at an Interstate 80 rest stop early Sunday. The victim survived with stabs to the neck, chest, and over a dozen other cuts. Police have not found a motive for the attack, which occurred after deadly crashes involving Sikh truck drivers led to debates about licensing requirements.

The incident has heightened fears among U.S. Sikhs and the Sikh trucking community, which has around 150,000 members. The attack has been compared to previous incidents involving Sikh truck drivers, including a U-turn on a Florida turnpike that caused a crash and a drug-related crash that killed three people. Both drivers were in the U.S. illegally, which community leaders blame for the rise in anti-Sikh sentiment.
