Police probe Rompin religious school hostel assault, five senior students freed on bail

On September 19, police in Rompin are investigating an assault at a religious school hostel, where five senior students allegedly attacked two Form Two students. According to Siti Rohani Yusof, the mother of one of the victims, the assault began around midnight on September 12 when the two students were dragged into a hostel room, had their heads covered, and were beaten for several hours. The 14-year-old son was assaulted for two hours, while his friend endured two and a half hours of abuse.

Rohani said her son did not report the incident initially due to fear of further attacks and was only able to confide in the warden and teachers on Tuesday. He requested to sleep at the warden's house for safety, but was denied. The mother reported that her son was assaulted once more on September 15, this time with a broomstick, and sought medical attention for his injuries. Police were informed of the incident and filed a report at the Muadzam Shah Police Station.

The Rompin police chief, Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi, confirmed the police had received a report of a fight involving two Form Two students at a boys' hostel in Bukit Ibam. Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred at 12:01 am on September 12 after both victims were summoned to a hostel room by five male students, three of whom were in Form Five and two in Form Four.

Both victims were beaten by all five suspects, resulting in injuries to their arms and bodies. The suspects were detained and subsequently released on police bail, with the case under investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code.
