Police probe Rompin religious school hostel assault, five senior students freed on bail

In Rompin, police are investigating an assault on two Form Two students at a religious school hostel. According to the mother of one victim, the incident took place on September 12, when five senior students entered their room, covered their heads, and beat them. The younger son was assaulted for two hours, while his friend was beaten for two and a half hours.

Despite initially not reporting the incident, the son confided in the warden and teachers on Tuesday, and mentioned that he sought refuge at the warden's house but was denied. Another assault occurred on September 15, involving a broomstick. The mother, Siti Rohani Yusof, has requested a police investigation into the hostel's management and the handling of the situation, hoping for transparency and improved student safety.

She also claims that about 16 students have come forward with similar experiences, leading her to transfer her son to another school. Rompin police chief Supt Sharif Shai confirmed the police had received the report, stating that the incident occurred after both victims skipped religious lectures and were subsequently assaulted by the five male students.

All five suspects were detained and later released on police bail, with the case under investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code.
