Photos: Nkrumahfest 2026 draws dignitaries as Ghana celebrates Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy

The 2026 Nkrumahfest commenced, bringing together influential political figures, government officials, traditional leaders, and Pan-African advocates to honor Ghana's inaugural President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Notable attendees include Armah-Kofi Buah, the Ellembele Member of Parliament and Chief Convener of Nkrumahfest; Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the NDC; Professor P.L.O. Lumumba, a renowned Pan-Africanist; and Samia Nkrumah, the daughter of the late Ghanaian leader.

Notable regional ministers, such as Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene and Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson, as well as former Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, have also joined the festivities. A number of distinguished guests have contributed to the event, providing a platform for ongoing discussions about Nkrumah's vision for Ghana and Africa.

The gathering is fostering renewed conversations on Nkrumah's vision, especially his advocacy for African unity, economic independence, industrialization, and a stronger continental identity. Participants are also considering the relevance of Nkrumah's ideas to Africa's contemporary development challenges, with Pan-Africanism and the continent's pursuit of increased economic and political self-reliance taking center stage in the celebrations.
