NSA denies alleged visa facilitation scheme amid police probe

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has refuted claims that its Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and some staff participated in a visa facilitation scheme in connection with the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The NSA Management conveyed this denial in a statement, insisting that Mr. Ankrah had not granted any media interviews regarding the false allegations.

They emphasized that the NSA's legal team is currently cooperating with the police investigation and urged the public to disregard such "reckless news" as it merits no respect. This response came after the Ghana Minority in Parliament demanded the Director General's immediate suspension or dismissal over alleged fraud linked to the visa facilitation arrangement for the tournament, which was held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Minority Caucus reported that some individuals had reportedly paid up to $8,000 for assistance with travel and visa arrangements related to the event. They sought the government's intervention to either remove Ankrah from his position or have him step aside during the ongoing investigation to ensure transparency.
