My Dear Ivan – A father's poignant tribute to a son tragically taken from the world

On the morning of 27th August 2026, the father left home for work, unaware that his life would never be the same again. Returning home that evening, he was delivered the devastating news that his son had been involved in an accident and had tragically lost his life. The memory of this day haunts him still, the sight of his son's lifeless body on a stretcher at the morgue forever etched in his mind.

The circumstances of Ivan's death are all the more heartbreaking – he was brutally murdered by a police officer, a paid protector meant to keep his father and others safe. Ivan's death highlights the glaring inequalities and disregard for human rights that exist in society. He was only 28 years old, his dreams centered around pursuing a legal education to become a voice for those without one and an advocate for the oppressed. Instead, his life was cut short by the very injustices he hoped to someday fight against.

For his mother, Apprey, the loss is devastating. She misses his calming presence and the comfort he brought to their home. They are unable to grasp the injustice of his untimely passing and have vowed to continue fighting for justice. Despite the pain, they remain committed to ensuring Ivan's murder is not in vain.

Ivan was beloved by his community, who have called for justice on his behalf. The Ghana Police have identified and are investigating the officer alleged to have committed this heinous act. While the father vows to work alongside the Police Service to bring closure to this matter, he promises his son that his pursuit of justice will continue.

A loving son and devoted gentleman, Ivan was raised in Adisadel College and cherished from his days in the MOBA. Though his life was tragically ended, his memory will live on through the many cherished memories shared with his father. He was the embodiment of love, laughter and life, his presence a beacon of warmth and comfort.
