Ministry of Municipality steps up public cleanliness, waste sorting initiatives

Doha, Qatar - The Ministry of Municipality in Qatar is ramping up its initiatives to enhance public cleanliness and promote responsible waste management, according to recent reports. In a bid to encourage sustainable practices and waste sorting at source, the Ministry has taken several steps.

Under the waste sorting at source programme, the Ministry has distributed a total of 42,600 blue recycling bins, as announced in a social media post. Additionally, they have installed 7,571 smart bins equipped with sensors in Al Wakra to facilitate more efficient waste collection and management.

The Ministry has also connected 39 cleaning vehicles to smart tracking and monitoring systems, thereby improving the supervision and management of their cleaning operations. Moreover, a significant number of cleanup campaigns were carried out in 2025, involving 69 events across beaches and islands. These campaigns received participation from 137 entities, including public and private sectors and civil society groups.

Over 3,000 people were trained and educated during these campaigns, emphasizing responsible waste management practices and community awareness.

The Ministry's efforts towards public cleanliness are not limited to maintaining clean public spaces. They are also focused on creating lasting awareness and encouraging community members to adopt responsible practices, ultimately helping to preserve public facilities.
