Milliardær Kjartan Aas desires to watch the entire NRK TV lineup from his home in Switzerland. This came to light in an email exchange with Norway's Culture and Equality Ministry in August, according to Dagens Næringsliv. Aas, who moved from Norway in 2021, questioned why he lacks access to NRK TV, highlighting that he continues to pay substantial taxes to Norway, and considers himself the largest taxpayer in Tvedestrand.

"If NRK is funded through a higher tax rate, it is unjust not to be included in NRK TV," he wrote to the department, DN reported. An NRK department spokesperson told DN that while some of NRK's programs are available in the wider world, direct TV and certain parts of their catalog are not accessible outside Norway or the EU. NRK emphasizes on their website that full access to their program lineup in the EU/EFTA requires residency in Norway, not simply being a citizen or taxpayer.

Aas felt the department either misunderstood his query or refused to answer, stating that they did not address his concerns, DN reported. Aas moved to Andermatt, Switzerland in December 2021, citing Norwegian tax policy as the reason for his move. When interviewed by E24 in February 2022 in the Swiss Alpine town, he expressed a desire to reduce all tax ties to Norway.

When met by E24 in his Swiss residence in February 2022, he stated he wished to cut all tax ties to Norway, saying, "They just don't want me there." In July 2025, Aas told E24 he was reconsidering a move to Sweden, hoping to find other Norwegian expatriates before deciding. However, he has since abandoned the idea of relocating to neighboring Sweden.
