Marks spotted in 1995 photo may reveal lost 18th-century English building

In the summer of 1995, Temple Newsam, a historic estate in Leeds, England, was captured on camera showing peculiar marks on its grass. Local archaeology enthusiasts, Mike Turpin and others, suspected these patterns might indicate hidden foundations beneath the lawn. Three decades later, their intuition was confirmed as the team from South Leeds Archaeology uncovered remnants of what could be an 18th-century building, dating back more than 280 years.

This discovery has also sparked interest in an 18th-century painting that seemingly depicts a structure once considered part of a never-realized renovation plan.
