Man accuses officers of extortion in Lagos, police begin probe

Nasir Ahmed, a Lagos resident, has accused three policemen of extorting him after stopping his vehicle on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, according to his friend Abdulqadr Hanzolah. The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday while Ahmed was on his way to work. The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the allegation, but has not yet established a connection between one of the persons identified by Ahmed and the police.

Hanzolah alleges that one of the officers, wearing a uniform with the name Michael Monday, attempted to take Ahmed to Alausa, Ikeja, demanding ₦500,000 for release. The officers instead drove Ahmed through several locations, including Apapa, Mile 2, Oshodi, Ilupeju, Palmgrove, and Onipanu, demanding an amount ranging from ₦250,000 to ₦50,000.

Ahmed was required to transfer money to two OPay accounts, but the transactions failed due to network issues. The policemen then withdrew ₦50,000 from Ahmed's account at a POS stand in Ilupeju. Ahmed has lodged a complaint with the Lagos State Police Command's Complaint Response Unit, providing evidence of the alleged extortion.

However, he has not received further updates from the police since submitting his complaint on Thursday.
