MACC says Najib’s conditional pardon does not alter ongoing 1MDB case status quo

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has stated that Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's conditional pardon does not alter the current status of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case, according to Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman. He emphasized that each case must be evaluated independently, taking into account the specific allegations and issues involved.

"For us, cases that are still pending will continue as usual. The status quo remains," Abd Halim told a press conference. He further clarified that comparing one case with another is not valid, as each investigation targets different aspects and accusations. The conditional pardon has been granted to Najib, enabling him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028, under the condition of paying a RM50 million fine.

The decision was made by the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister's Department during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, held at Istana Negara.
