MACC records Mat Sabu’s statement in fertiliser supply probe, 37 witnesses called so far

Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has confirmed he provided a statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding allegations of irregularities in fertiliser supply in Kedah. The investigation, initiated by Kedah MACC, was prompted by a complaint from the Malaysian Padi Farmers Brotherhood Association (PeSAWAH) on August 26 about delays in fertilizer delivery to the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada) area, covering around 100,000 hectares.

Mohamad, who is also the president of Amanah, spent approximately 30 minutes answering MACC's questions. He stated he was called to give a statement, went to give it, and then left it to the commission to proceed with its investigation. Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof, vice-presidents Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, and Amanah Melaka chairman Adly Zahari were present during the statement.

Mohamad declined to reveal the specifics of his statement, leaving it to MACC to determine any subsequent actions. Regarding a letter of demand (LOD) linked to the issue, Mohamad stated he had delegated the matter to his lawyer due to legal action against the owner of the account for making false allegations on social media. The LOD's handling depends on the circumstances, and he left it to his lawyer.

Earlier, MACC confirmed it had recorded statements from Mohamad and the ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Isham Ishak, on September 15 and 16, respectively.
