Longtime AP Florida politics reporter Brendan Farrington dies at 60

Brendan Farrington, a long-time Associated Press reporter based in Florida, has passed away at the age of 60. Known for covering politics, hurricanes, and quirky stories, Farrington dedicated over 25 years of his career to the AP. He was based in Tallahassee, where he was known for his fairness, kindness, and a good sense of humor.

Many politicians and colleagues held him in high regard, considering him a trusted source and a friend. Farrington began his journalism career in Massachusetts before joining the AP in Miami and later moving to Tallahassee. He was particularly well-known for his "weird Florida" annual roundup, which highlighted unusual stories from around the state. Farrington left the AP in January 2025 as part of a voluntary buyout.
