Kwara Assembly official urges leaders to bridge Nigeria’s policy execution gap

Nigerian leaders have been urged to bridge the gap between policy formulation and implementation, according to Basirat Saka, the Director of Publication for Kwara State House of Assembly. In Abuja, Saka, who recently became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management (CIISM), emphasized that the country has a surplus of ideas but struggles with their execution.

"Formulation without implementation is hallucination," she asserted. Saka argued that Nigeria has drafted numerous policies but has faced challenges in translating them into tangible results. During her induction as a Fellow of the CIISM, Saka stressed that information without action is noise, and strategy without execution is fantasy.

She called on leaders to shift their focus from discussions and committees to measurable outcomes, stressing the importance of clear responsibilities, timelines, costs, and performance indicators. Saka urged leaders to adopt data-driven approaches, accountability, and consequences, emphasizing the need for discipline and tangible results.

"Let us build the discipline of Who does What, By When, and at What Cost? Let us embrace data, accountability, and consequences," she urged.
