Kwadwo Poku: NACOC should be more proactive in arresting cocaine consignments in the country

NPP member Kwadwo Poku has urged the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to ramp up its efforts in identifying and dismantling drug trafficking networks in Ghana. Speaking on TV3's The KeyPoints, Poku emphasized the need for a more proactive approach from the NACOC to proactively locate drug warehouses and consignments in the country.

He argued that the focus should shift from responding to known shipments to actively searching for illicit drug storage and distribution points. Poku argued that the NACOC should be more proactive in arresting drug consignments within Ghana, stating that the public should witness more busts of warehouses and be genuinely shocked by the findings.

He criticized the lack of tangible evidence in drug seizures, warning that initial claims about seized items could later be disputed. Poku highlighted previous instances where authorities had announced the seizure of money and drugs, only to later reveal that the items were counterfeit. He stressed that a more intelligence-driven approach would help ascertain the scale of illicit drug activity in Ghana and bolster public trust in narcotics enforcement efforts.
