Jarry hopes to stand out in crowded Oilers crease

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Tristan Jarry is aiming to make a strong start in the upcoming season as he hopes to bounce back from last year's struggles. The team has seven goalies in camp, with Jarry set to be the primary netminder when the season commences on September 29th. Devon Levi, acquired in an off-season trade from Buffalo Sabres, will provide support but only has 39 NHL games under his belt.

Frederik Andersen, who signed as a free agent with the Oilers after leading the Carolina Hurricanes to a Stanley Cup victory, is still recuperating from a knee injury suffered during those playoffs and is expected to return late in October.

Jarry had a promising start last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but after being traded to Edmonton in December, he only played three games before suffering a lower-body injury, missing nearly a month. His former coach, Dave Bowman, believes Jarry has returned in excellent form and is confident he will bounce back. Last season, Jarry posted a 9-6-2 record with one shutout and a 3.86 goals-against average in 19 games for the Oilers.

The Oilers are counting on Jarry to carry the load at the beginning of the season, but with Andersen due back in late October, the team expects to have three goalies in the lineup. Jarry acknowledges the adjustment that will come with multiple goalies and stresses the importance of managing playing and non-playing days. He also acknowledges the pressure that comes with being one of Edmonton's goaltenders, but remains focused on the ultimate goal of having the team be the last playing in June.
