Jakob Ingebrigtsen pipped to gold in thrilling World Road Running Championships

Norwegian runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen was narrowly beaten to gold in the 5000-meter race at the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen. His compatriot, Dawit Seare of Eritrea, secured the title with a time of 12:56, just ahead of Ingebrigtsen's national record of 12:59. The race saw a highly competitive lead change, with Ethiopia's Mezgebu Sime leading strong, only for Seare to challenge and swiftly overtake him.

Ingebrigtsen mounted a significant comeback, closing the gap in the final 200 meters, but ultimately faded just 100 meters from the finish line, allowing Seare to claim victory. Seare's teammate Saywon Amanuel finished third at a personal best of 13 minutes flat. Ethiopia's Likina Amebaw continued her impressive season, winning the women's 5k in a personal best time of 14:41, followed by Kenya's Caroline Gitonga and Australia's Rose Davies.

Britain's Hannah Nuttall finished 10th, setting a personal best time of 15:08. Earlier in the day, French runner Agathe Guillemot claimed the women's mile title with a world-leading time of 4:22.74, outpacing Freweyni Hailu and Kenya's Mirriam Cherop to take silver and third place, respectively.
