Iran awaits Trump response to ceasefire terms, says top security official

Iran is awaiting a response from the United States to its conditions for ending the ongoing war, according to Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei. Speaking to Al Jazeera on Monday, Rezaei stated that Iran is prepared to continue the conflict if its demands are not met. The Iranian leader noted that Tehran has been in communication with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, with the latter having relayed Iran's conditions to Washington in an attempt to bring an end to the conflict.

Rezaei emphasized that it is in the US's interest to accept Iran's terms to avoid further war, asserting that President Trump's threats will prove ineffective. Iran's conditions for a ceasefire include ending hostilities on all fronts, releasing the country's frozen assets, and lifting the naval blockade. Rezaei explained that Iran has concluded it must revise its strategy towards Washington following the US withdrawal from the memorandum of understanding.

The Iranian official affirmed Iran's commitment to the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's fatwa, but noted that the nuclear doctrine has not changed. Rezaei also revealed Iran's readiness to counter US airstrikes with greater force, including striking US bases and interests in the region. Additionally, he disclosed that Iran recently conducted a test of an anti-ship missile in proximity to a US aircraft carrier.
