Indian Railways approves Rs 736 crore projects in 4 states for safer train operations: Check details

Indian Railways has greenlit projects worth Rs 736 crore in four states - Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat - to enhance train safety, signalling, and infrastructure. These initiatives focus on modernizing key systems and improving connectivity.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Kavach 4.0 automatic train protection system will be installed on 607.7 route kilometres in the Lucknow Division. Kavach is designed to prevent collisions by automatically applying brakes when necessary.

Maharashtra has allocated Rs 209 crore for electronic interlocking at seven stations in the Solapur Division. This signalling system ensures train movements only when the required route and safety conditions are met, enhancing overall safety.

Andhra Pradesh will receive Rs 142 crore to upgrade the electric traction system on the Savalyapuram-Guntur section. The project involves a transition to a 2×25 kV traction system, boosting power supply and operational capacity.

Gujarat has secured Rs 133 crore for constructing a four-lane road over bridge on the Udhna-Ukai Songadh section. This infrastructure improvement aims to reduce traffic-railway interactions and enhance road connectivity in the area.
