I wish Charlie Boy had resembled his father — Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo expressed a desire for Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, better known as Charlie Boy, to resemble his father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, whom he deemed a great man. This sentiment emerged during an interview with media personality Bae U, in which Obasanjo recounted his evolving perception of Charlie Boy.

Initially, Obasanjo regarded Charlie Boy as enigmatic, referring to him as "Jaga Jaga" due to his limited understanding of the entertainer. However, Obasanjo's opinion of Charlie Boy transformed after visiting Justice Oputa and witnessing his care for the late jurist. Obasanjo described Justice Oputa as one of the Nigerians he held in high regard, and his initial distaste for Charlie Boy was largely due to the appearance of a motorcycle in front of the house, which seemed out of place.

Upon visiting the house and observing Justice Oputa's care, Obasanjo began to change his mind about Charlie Boy. He noted that Charlie Boy also looked after his mother, a humorous woman, and this further influenced his opinion of the entertainer. Eventually, Obasanjo came to appreciate Charlie Boy's intelligence, stemming from his unconventional public persona and the means by which he made a living.

Despite this newfound respect, Obasanjo admitted that his affection for Charlie Boy was not particularly strong, stating, "So now I like him a bit, not too much."
