Hidden Pipeline Used To Divert Sewage Into Borewell, Builder Booked In Bhopal

In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, police have registered a case against Narendra Bhakt, the builder of Astha Vihar Campus Colony, for allegedly diverting sewage into a borewell using a hidden pipeline. This groundwater contamination was brought to light by Diwakar Pandey, a colony resident who had been living in the area since May 2025.

Pandey had previously lodged complaints with the Bhopal Municipal Corporation and district administration in July 2025. However, it was only after his follow-up on February 17 that a joint team from the Bhopal Municipal Corporation and Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board inspected the borewell. They discovered that sewage waste was indeed being discharged into the borewell through a concealed pipeline, concealed by concrete.

The borewell was subsequently sealed, halting the sewage discharge. The Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board subsequently wrote to the Bhopal Municipal Corporation, requesting action. The Municipal Corporation, in turn, issued a notice to Bhakt, mandating proper sewage disposal arrangements. Despite the cessation of sewage discharge into the borewell, Pandey claims that the colony continues to suffer from poor sewage disposal.

He reports that foul-smelling wastewater from the sewage tank now overflows from the colony's chambers.
