Ghana Jollof case: ‘Use your influence to free Salomey’ – Akosua Manu to Naana Jane

Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has raised concerns about the selective application of Section 208 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act. The controversy centers around the arrest and remand of senior nursing officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe, who allegedly has links to UK-based TikTok user Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, known as "Ghana Jollof."

Rev. Ntim Fordjour criticized the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for showcasing a video of Ghana Jollof, while failing to do the same for other individuals. He questioned the decision to organize a press conference to display Salomey's content, highlighting how her arrest and detention for 400 kilometers without access to legal counsel marked a troubling violation of her rights.

The MP also questioned why other individuals circulating potentially offensive content under Section 208 have not faced similar consequences. He expressed concern that some people might continue to produce and circulate offensive content due to perceived government support. Rev. Ntim Fordjour specifically questioned whether Section 208 only applies to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or those critical of the government.

He further inquired about the scope of online content investigations, suggesting that authorities may be targeting only those associated with the NPP. The Assin South MP called for condemnation of what he saw as the unfair application of the law, urging religious and influential members of society to speak out against the perceived injustice.
