Earlier this year, the US military came perilously close to boarding a Chinese vessel in the Middle East, according to CNN. The intelligence report, generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence, had indicated the ship was carrying components related to nuclear weapons. American forces were preparing to intercept the vessel when officials realized that an AI chatbot had misidentified the cargo, leading them to cancel the operation, CNN reported, citing four anonymous sources.

The intelligence report, one source said, was "entirely false," but "almost started a war." The vessel's actual contents and destination remained undisclosed. US Central Command, responsible for American forces in the Middle East, did not immediately comment on the incident. This incident follows a recent controversy involving AI researcher who resigned from Anthropic, an AI firm, expressing concerns about the technology's potential to surpass human control.

Some of Trump's key allies have also expressed opposition to stringent AI regulation. Another incident involving US military and China has emerged, with Politico reporting that F-35 jet parts, including a crucial stealth canopy, were diverted to Hong Kong and are now missing. This raises fears that Beijing may have obtained sensitive American military technology.

The parts were en route from Australia to the United States for repairs when they were rerouted, though it is unclear why or where the components are now. Lockheed Martin, the company managing the F-35 supply chain, stated that they could not discuss specific shipments due to security reasons and assured that they adhere to all US regulations set by the Department of War and overseen by the Defense Logistics Agency regarding the shipment of aircraft components.
