Educating teens through football is a great buzz, says Gerrard

Steven Gerrard, the former Liverpool captain, has praised the impact of his football and education academy for teenagers aged 16-19. The academy, launched in 2011, provides these young individuals with the opportunity to combine their education with top-level football. Education Secretary Lucy Powell visited the academy in Mossley Hill to learn more about the program's engagement of young people who might otherwise have dropped out of conventional education.

Gerrard remarked that his own career in the game, had he not found it, would have left him in a similar crossroads as many of these students. He emphasized the importance of giving these teenagers a platform to further their education, better themselves, and run parallel to their football careers. Powell commended Gerrard's efforts and highlighted the government's desire to incorporate more practical and vocational pathways in education to prepare students for jobs and the world of work.
