Delta orders probe as NDC, APC supporters clash

The Delta State Government has ordered security agencies to investigate and prosecute anyone responsible for a violent political clash between alleged supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. The confrontation occurred during an NDC campaign march on Friday, and a viral video of the incident has sparked concern over the potential for political rivalry to escalate into violence.

NDC leader allegedly accused APC and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of sponsoring the attack. In response, the State Commissioner for Works and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, stated that Governor Oborevwori has instructed security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable. The government emphasized that political parties, candidates, and supporters are entitled to campaign freely and peacefully throughout Delta State without harassment.

Aniagwu reiterated that zero-tolerance would be maintained for political violence, regardless of the parties or individuals involved. He urged both ruling and opposition party supporters to comply with the law and refrain from allowing political competition to turn into a physical supremacy battle. The commissioner called on all political leaders, candidates, youth, and community leaders to prevent their supporters from causing unrest and emphasized that no political ambition or party interest is worth anyone's life in Delta State.
