APC, NDC Clash: Delta Orders Probe, Prosecution of Culprits

Suspected supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and the All Progressives Congress engaged in a violent clash in Effurun, Delta State, Nigeria, on Friday, according to local reports. In response to the incident, the Delta State Government ordered an investigation by security agencies and threatened prosecution of those found responsible.

The government condemned the reported political violence and condemned political rivalry from degenerating into thuggery, intimidation, and other forms of violence. The state's Commissioner for Works and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, stated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori directed the security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and that every political party, candidate, and supporter had the right to campaign freely and without harassment in Delta State.

Aniagwu emphasized that political campaigns should not turn into a battle for physical supremacy and that political affiliation could not grant anyone immunity from prosecution. The police confirmed a killing related to the incident, and the state government urged political leaders and supporters to refrain from violence and maintain peace during campaign activities.
