Defending from front is Liverpool's 'attacking weapon'

Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool last summer from Newcastle in a British record transfer fee of £125 million, expressed his satisfaction with the decision. Speaking to BBC Sport, the Sweden striker emphasized the club's ambition and his attraction to the institution. Isak had missed pre-season training due to uncertainty surrounding his future at Newcastle and had been training at Real Sociedad. A leg break injury sidelined him from December until April of the current season.

In his first season at Anfield, Isak managed to score three Premier League goals in four games, matching last season's tally. Despite the challenges, he maintains a positive outlook. He noted that head coach Andoni Iraola believes Isak's ability to defend from the front is an attacking weapon for the team. Isak agrees, stating that it's about getting the ball forward quickly to the offensive players, which he believes will lead to more goals.

Isak, with 60 Premier League goals to his name, scored 23 goals for Newcastle during the 2024-25 season. He is committed to contributing to Liverpool's trophy success but avoids setting personal targets. For Isak, the focus is on scoring every game, considering the differing preferences of teammates regarding goal-setting.
