Dar underscores need for uninterrupted energy supplies, safe passage of ships in call with Iranian FM

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized the necessity of continuous energy supplies and secure maritime routes during a conversation with Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The two ministers discussed recent regional updates, according to a press release from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

Dar highlighted the significance of uninterrupted energy access and swift ship passage, stressing their importance for underdeveloped nations and global supply chains. He reiterated that "dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable means" to maintain peace and stability in the region. The MoFA added that Dar and Araghchi agreed to continue close cooperation and meet in New York alongside the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Additionally, Dar had a separate discussion with Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamad Hasan, focusing on Pakistan-Malaysia economic ties and the importance of ongoing high-level exchanges. Both nations also expressed intent to meet in New York during the same UN session. Pakistan is set to dispatch another high-ranking delegation to Tehran in a fresh diplomatic effort to resolve the Iran-US standoff and ease tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen, according to officials.

While the delegation’s makeup remains undisclosed, a senior government source hinted that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi might lead the mission. This move coincides with Pakistan’s efforts to uphold its role as a mediator between Iran and the US and address escalating security concerns linked to Saudi Arabia and Houthi rebels.
