Carney and Macron to meet in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon on Sunday

Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney and French President Emmanuel Macron are set to meet on the French territory of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, located 20 kilometres off the southern coast of Newfoundland, on Sunday. The meeting, described as a symbolic display of unity and mutual respect, will include a working lunch and a wreath-laying ceremony at a memorial for Free French volunteers who liberated the archipelago during World War II in 1941.

This visit marks the first time a Canadian prime minister has visited Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon in over a decade, and serves as a demonstration of Canada's growing ties with Europe. President Macron's office emphasized that France and Canada share common values such as freedom, democracy, rule of law, and respect for national sovereignty.

The leaders will discuss potential areas of cooperation in sectors like aerospace, energy, critical minerals, advanced technologies, and regional collaboration on issues such as fishing, transport, and university exchanges.
