BREAKING: Nigerians will pay less for transport in October – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has announced that Nigerians will experience lower transportation costs starting from October 2026. This announcement was made in a statement released by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday. The initiative is part of the National Affordable Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, Transit Programme.

During a meeting on August 27 with the governors of the 36 states, Tinubu confirmed their agreement on a shared objective. From October 1, there should be noticeable reductions in transportation expenses for the general populace. Following this, an implementation committee for the National Affordable CNG Transit Programme was established under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as the chairperson.

Onanuga acknowledged the significant progress already made by the committee, PI-CNG & EV, as well as the states and other key stakeholders in identifying vital transport corridors, determining appropriate interventions, and establishing the necessary arrangements. The urgency of these efforts has been heightened due to the ongoing global energy crisis.
