Bawa-Rock supports over 300 Obuasi Town Hall fire victims with GH¢1.5m package

Bawa-Rock Limited has provided a relief package of GH¢1.5 million to over 300 individuals affected by the devastating fire that destroyed the historic Obuasi Town Hall. The fire, which occurred late Saturday night, caused extensive damage to businesses, particularly those run by tailors, seamstresses, and their apprentices. The 100-year-old Town Hall was a significant trading and tailoring center in Obuasi Central Business District, housing more than 300 master tailors and apprentices, and 300 to 400 sewing and knitting machines.

With the cause of the fire still unknown, Bawa-Rock's support includes industrial sewing machines and cash aid for 65 master tailors and seamstresses, as well as handheld sewing machines and cash for 110 apprentices. Additionally, thirty-four shop owners and eleven container owners received monetary assistance. The company's Business Development and Sustainability Lead, Mr. Eric Addae Boateng, emphasized that supporting communities during difficult times is part of their responsibility.

The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive thanked Bawa-Rock for their aid and appealed for further support from other stakeholders. The assembly warned the public to avoid the damaged Town Hall due to safety concerns and plans to demolish the remaining structure to build new stores for the traders.
