Aussie teen revving to take on world's best in sim racing championships

Xavier Cain, a 16-year-old student from Mount Gambier, South Australia, is set to compete against top simulator racers in the 2026 Porsche eSports Super Cup World Championship. Despite his alarm clock going off at 3 am on Mondays, Xavier is excited to jump out of bed and participate in the virtual races, which begin at 4 am. He's not focusing on finishing in a specific position, but rather on learning and growing for the future.

The competition offers a $10,000 prize and the opportunity to secure a development driving spot with Porsche. Xavier joined professional team Automoves Racing six months ago and is now among the top 1 percent of racers on iRacing, a platform that simulates real-world variables such as tyre wear, vehicle damage, and fuel levels. Xavier's coach, Jordan McDonnell, noted that Xavier's talent was evident, and he was quickly promoted to the main team despite initially being ranked lower.

Sim racing has gained immense popularity in recent years, thanks to advancements in technology and the growth of social media. High-profile drivers like Max Verstappen have further popularized the e-sport. For Xavier, participating in the championship and potentially securing a real-world development spot is a dream come true, balancing his passion for racing with his studies and TAFE classes.
