Arteta vows Arsenal will learn from chastening Brighton defeat

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta vowed that his team would learn from their disappointing 3-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion, which marked the end of their perfect start to the Premier League title defence. Although Arsenal had won their first four games of the season without conceding a goal, they were unable to match Brighton's superior performance.

Brighton moved up to third place in the table with 10 points from five games, while Arsenal fell to second place on goal difference with 12 points from five. The loss marked the heaviest defeat for Arsenal in all competitions since a 3-0 home loss to Brighton in May 2023. Brighton's goals came from Pascal Gross, Charalampos Kostoulas, and Chema Andres.

Mikel Arteta admitted that Arsenal were outmatched, especially in the early stages of the first half, and committed several technical errors. However, he emphasized that his team has shown exceptional performance since the World Cup and vowed to learn from this experience. Brighton's success was built on their relentless pressing, which left Arsenal with little time on the ball and unable to control the game.

Arteta's side struggled in that regard, but Brighton's clinical finishing in the final third resulted in a 16-goal tally in five games this season. The visitors were also poor in defending set-pieces, which might have cost them more points on another day.
