Aiden Flora's career day leads Cyclones' offensive onslaught in 55-7 win over Bowling Green

Aiden Flora rushed for a career-high 194 yards in the first half and returned a punt for a touchdown, contributing significantly to Iowa State's dominant 55-7 victory over Bowling Green on Saturday. Cameron Pettway added a 100-yard kick return for a score, coming back against his former team. Iowa State amassed a total of 507 yards of offense against their undermatched opponent from the Mid-American Conference.

The Cyclones (2-1) entered this game as the final tune-up before opening Big 12 play at home against No. 17 Utah next week. Bowling Green (0-3) suffered their worst start since losing their first five games in 2017. Flora, who walked on in 2024 and earned a scholarship in January, finished with 296 all-purpose yards, the most by an Iowa State player since Leonard Johnson in 2008.

He led a rushing attack that totaled 365 yards, their most since 2011. The game was momentarily halted for 15 minutes to treat Iowa State cornerback Jaheim Singletary, who was injured during a collision with teammate Willie Breland III. Breland was not injured but was taken off the field on a backboard. Pettway broke through Bowling Green's kick coverage and, with the help of Dominic Overby's block, scored a 100-yard touchdown.

Flora followed with touchdowns of 61 and 42 yards, leading the Cyclones to a halftime lead of four touchdowns. His long punt return in the third quarter put Iowa State up 45-7. Bowling Green's 27 points in three games represent their fewest in the Division I era that began in 1962. They ran only two plays on Iowa State's side of the field in the first half and never advanced past the Iowa State 35-yard line, except for Sharp's 59-yard touchdown reception.

Bowling Green's defense allowed an average of 295.7 yards rushing per game so far. Iowa State's offense proved unstoppable after losing to Iowa last week, with a run game that set records not seen in 15 years. The Cyclones will face a tougher Utah defense that allows 85 yards per game on the ground when they meet next Saturday. Bowling Green will host South Florida next Saturday, while Iowa State will host Utah on the same day.
