‘AI can never replace HI — Human Instinct, Human Intelligence’: Meghna Gulzar

Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar and actors Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran discussed their film Daayra, which portrays crime onscreen and navigates AI. They were in conversation with Priyanka Sinha Jha, COO, The SCREEN Academy. Meghna stated that she doesn't take sides between Team Ajooni and Team Raman, but rather believes in the film that she wanted to make.

Kareena emphasized that it's about believing in the film and doing justice to it. Prithviraj shared that he doesn't agree or disagree with the entirety of Raman or Ajooni, which allows the film to exist in its whole form and pose a question to the audience. The film takes a balanced approach, giving equal weightage to both sides, making the question of choosing a side difficult.

Meghna added that cinema has a responsibility to propagate certain things and also to the audience to follow what cinema is propagating. The film aims to fix the negative aspects of society, rather than simply depicting them. Meghna found Ajooni and Raman to be complete opposites yet complementing each other. Ajooni is disarmingly different from female police officers in films, while Raman is always scowling.

Kareena was approached by Meghna to produce Daayra, despite her previous reluctance to produce films. As an actor, she approaches each role with the intent to explore different facets of herself and doesn't shy away from challenging roles like Daayra.
